Canada: The First Spool

Day one. I do believe this is the weather we woke up to on the first morning in Canada. Unfortunately you can’t see the little trees with the Christmas light on the front porch of the house in the background. A number of places had strings of Christmas lights but they only came on after dark when our shaky hands would’ve made it impossible to take decent pictures.

These were taken shortly after the day we arrived, i.e. 21th December. I think. Which explains why we have a kettle and a dish in the sink. I think we actually put a clean plate in the draining tray to show off the set... In case you’re wondering, the yellow stuff in the glass is Mountain Dew.

In the above picture, you can see a bit of the kitchen table and chair set that Kevin donated to us.

Still the same day ... we tend to take photos in batches. Just look how empty the flat is ... and so tidy too. -_- We assure you this doesn’t last long, although we do on occasion go on cleaning rampages. The couch, swivel chair, and pedestal were also donated to us by Kevin.

The bed is a futon that can be converted into a couch and the couch can be converted into a bed ... The futon is far more comfortable though.

Still the same day but just a few pictures of outside the flat ... you can’t let a sunny day go to waste. Sunny winter days are best seen from indoors though. Just like South Africa the bright sunny winter days are also the coldest. Look at the snooooow.

Yes it is possible for your car to get snowed under, and the cars get absolutely filthy from the slush. However, once the sun comes out everybody drives their cars to the self-service car wash and they blast off the muck.

We visited Toronto the 1st Saturday that we were there. This is a picture of us in the Skywalk (as you can see), which leads to the CN tower from Union station. Kevin took the photo. However, since the weather was generally crappy that day no other photos were waste... taken. The walkways under the city are called "The Path".

Here we are showing off the dreaded pink couch.

Behold the hairy legs! Muahaha!

We know you’re dying to see more pictures of us, so we’ll oblige by taking a whole bunch of us showing all the new stuff we bought during the Boxing Day specials. Specifically the lamp, tv, the rug and the microwave that nuked itself after less than a week. I guess it was camera shy... Or curled up and died from embarrassment.

These are just to show you how cool our dark blue duvet cover set looks.

More hairy leg shots for all you Gordie fans out there...

And there was just something funny about this picture...

Anyway, here’s Gordon in his suit looking all spiffy. Mulderesque, even...

And here he is ironing it...

The microwave in the background is the new Sanyo that we bought in February.

And here he is the next morning in his coat and ready to go to a number of interviews as well as the Sitraka expo. It was -11 degrees outside with considerable wind-chill as I recall. He was feeling brave and didn’t wear his beanie or gloves. He sincerely regretted it. He figured he’d be too annoyed to carry it around all the time. He hadn’t discovered the pockets in his jacket yet, you see...

Another bright sunny day after the snow has all but melted. We occasionally get flurries but nothing like the snow we had when we first arrived. Now it’s just blue and chilly.

And finally the beast. We assembled the desk ourselves. The little packet of red stuff are "hot tamales" cinnamon flavoured jellybeans. ("Yummy!" - Rhoda) You can see our cordless speakerphone and the Final Fantasy 8 game as well. The map in the background is a map of southern Ontario, so we can see where Gordon might have to work when they say there’s a job in London or wherever.
